Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

My car was repossesed and sold in Nov. 2011.. I was served with papers to appear in court in Feb. 2012, because I am being sued for the amount due.. I have never been in a situation like this before.. Can someone please explain to me what I am to expect??

Either you are being sued in small claims court, or you already lost the lawsuit and you are being summoned for a judgment debtor's examination. The answer depends on which it is.
