Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Car repossession

I sold my car before being deployed with the Navy, and the woman I sold it to has failed to make payments on a number of occassions both during my deployment and since I've returned. I bought and sold the car in California, but now I live in Saint Louis. What are my options? What do I have to do to legally repossess the car or force payment?

Re: Car repossession

Your best bet is to contact a California lawyer. The rules in California will determine what you can do. For example, when you sold the car, did you keep a lien on the vehicle? If so, then you can lawfully repossess the car, but need to comply with the letter of the law before you do in order to protect yourself. You should contact a "creditors rights" attorney in California as soon as you can.
