Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Is there case law regarding the situation below?

A man and wife in California (community property state I assume)The man has an injury and the couple incur $15,000.00 in hospital bills. They divorce, shortly after. The woman has paid $11,000.00 of the bills, over a 12 year span...the ex-husband has paid nothing, and is currently serving time in prison. There was no divorce agreement on outstanding debts. Since, the woman has paid well over her 50% of the hospital debts....is she obligated to resume payments on the outstanding balance of $4,000.00? If not, what precedent in legal procedure can she refer to?

Thank You for your time. Desparately need help on this issue.

she would only be obligated if she signed an agreement to pay with the hospital.
