Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Cash Checking Business

My previous employer wrote me my final check. I cashed it at a check cashing store. The check he wrote was bad. They were not able to get in contact with him so now they are coming after me to get the money? Are they able to do this? I did not write the check and now I am having to pay this money so that they don't send me to the legal department.

Re: Cash Checking Business

Yes, they can come to you. You would then need to go to your employer. You may also have a complaint with the Labor Board. You should contact them immediately and, if possible, pay back the check cashing place quickly so as not to ruin your credit.

Contact the Office of the Labor Commissioner, California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement and they will go after your former employer without your having to do anything else.
