Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

check fraud

A person signed over a workers comp check to me to deposit to my bank account and cash. I then withdrew the cash in the amount of $853.34 and gave to the person who the check belonged to. 10 days past and the insurance company put a stop payment on the check because the person claimed he didn't receive it. Now that I have cashed that check and the check is not good, did the person frauding the insurance company or rip me off for 853.34? How do I go about recovering my 853.34 and returned check fees from the person who the check was issued to? Its been over a month now and still this person hasn't paid me back. HELP!

Re: check fraud

You'll need to take the person who gave the check to small Claims Court in order to get your money.
