Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

i have checks that has showen up on my credit report that i wrote in 1996 thru 2003 along with late fees and they are with a collections company am I still liable to pay them.

If no lawsuit has been filed by now, then the statutes of limitations probably bar collections.
