Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Civil judgement wage garnishment

Can a judgement from a Canadian court be enforced in California, especially a civil judgement that might lead to wage garnishment? What about credit, collections and debts in general - are they enforceable across the borders?

Re: Civil judgement wage garnishment

A Canadian Judgment generally can be collected in California. We would have to review the judgment and see the complaint that the judgment was based upon. A ceritified copy of the judgment would be needed along with the Interest law of the jurisdiction. Then, a Sister State judgment can be filed in California, served, and a wage garnishment can be used to collect it once the judgment is entered.
