Does a collection agency have the right to threaten to send me to court and garnish my wages if I don't pay off a debt or call me and leave messages of the sort to friends and family? Even if I tried to reason with them regarding my economic situation can they still send me to court or garnish my wages?

Re: Does a collection agency have the right to threaten to send me to court and

They can contact you to collect but they cannot threaten and harass you. If they sue you and win a judgment, then they can garnish your wages up to 25%.

You can hire a lawyer to handle the mattter for you and they cannot contact you thereafter. For more information, check out the Federal Fair Collections act.
