Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Collection Agency / Write Off

I received a call over the weekend from a collection agency who stated they purchased a debt from a old credit card debt that was written off six years ago. No payments have been made for 6 - 7 years and I told them that this debt was written off several years ago. They stated if I didnt send them a payment they were going to take legal action againt me to collect the debt. There is no judgement against this outstanding balance. I believe this is way past the statue of limitations, isnt the statue of limitations four years from last payment date without a judgement? Can they come after me for this balance?
