Can a collection agency that is not the original note lender garnish my wages?

Anybody who obtains a judgment can garnish your wages, but then cannot garnish your wages without one. If the collection agency can prove to the satisfaction of the court that it was a proper assignee of the note and that you are in default, then the collection agency can obtain a judgment against you.
