Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Collection from unknown company
A collection just appeared on my husband's credit reports for a medical bill he supposedly incurred in May 2005 for $106. No contact info was on the credit reports, and only 1 report even had the name of the collection agency (NCO-Medclr). We called the clinic, they referred us to the physician's billing service, and they referred us to a collection agency. However, that collection agency is not the one on our credit report - they state that they do not report to credit bureaus so it can't be them on our report. We never knew we owed this money, and never received a bill. We did move across the country a month and a half later, but all our other mail was forwarded, so I don't know why a bill from them wouldn't have arrived, especially if they sent more than one (which I don't know if they did). Or, they may have billed our insurance company after we had already moved and changed insurance. Either way, now there is a collection on his credit reports and if we pay it it will remain as a ''paid collection''. There is a chance that we do actually owe this money, but never knew we owed it. Do we have any legal recourse to get this off his credit report? We would pay ten times this amount if we knew we owed it!
Thanks!

Re: Collection from unknown company
Contact the three credit agencies by mail (keep a copy) and have your husband dispute the charge. If no one confirms it, it will come off the credit reports. If it's confirmed, then contact NCO at NCO Financial Systems Inc., 507 Prudential Road, Horsham, PA 19044. Good luck!

Find out the name of the CA and write tem a FDCPA validation letter. Do not deal with them except in writing. Do not give them your bank account number. See creditboards.com ,
