collectors trying to collect on 14 yr old debt

i have a collector trying to collect on an unsecured credit

card debt that is almost 14 yrs old. The original debt of $3500 they say is now $23000 due to accelerated interest. I had never been even contacted about this debt in almost 14 yrs and now they have reported it on my credit report. The report also says last payment or contact was in 1999 but i never spoke with them until recent. Supposedly they say the contact was with my exhusband but even I dont know where he is. Isnt there some sort of statue of limitations?

Statute of limitations is 4 years for a written contract. They are too late. Unless they can show tha you signed a document reaffirming the debt within the last 4 years, they are out of luck.

Tell them that if they do not remove the negative posting with the credit bureaus AND stop contacting you, that you will take legal action against them.
