Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

credit card cancelation

Can American Express cancel my account regardless of my personal 20 year history with them? I tried to use my card today and found out that Amex canceled my account. They told me that it was because of my external credit bureau score. Is this legal?

They have the right to cancel your account based on your credit score.

Re: credit card cancelation

Yup. Check your credit agreement, as modified over and over by Amex. Get used to this - more and more credit card companies are cancelling perfectly good customer's accounts just to "minimize risk" based on their credit score. Sorry it happened, but it is happening all over the country, and is solely a question of the contract between you and Amex. As to your follow-up question about H.R. 627, you need to read it as it does not go into effect for 9 months!
