credit card collection
If mom gets a credit card collection and she is the only name on it. can family get sued and end up paying for it because it is an unsecured loan?

Technically no - if nobody in the family signed for it, then the lender cannot sue you directly on her obligation. That being said, if she passes away and still owes them money, they will make a claim against her estate (the property she owns at passing) and collect from the estate before any assets are distributed.
