Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Credit card debt

I have a credit card that was sent to a attorney's office & they are calling me & trying to collect. Can they garnish my wages, or what's the worst that can happen now that it's with a attorney's office? I do plan on paying, but right now I can't afford it. I live in California. Thanks for you help!
