Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

credit card debt

I have 3 credit card bills 2 small ie 700.00 and 1 at 1800.00, before sent to 3rd company was 1400.00 tried to get them to settle but timing is always off. when i have $ they wont get back to me and when i paid other bills then they contact me. i company did not lower enough tomake worth my time. what can I do? will they seek legal against me for small amounts? also tried credit counseling and they charged a fee and pmts did not get smaller. i has a student loan taken frommy taxed last year and i am uneasy about these. we had hard times and only 1 income for over 1 year and trying to get back on our feet. need some advice as to what to expect and if any negotiation skills.

Can't do much with the tax withholding. with the collectors you need to familiarize yourself with the FDCPA and also that SOL is 4 years on witten contract. The closer you get to 4 years easier to negotiate.
