Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

our credit card debt was purchased by a collection agency other than our original contract was with, do we owe this new company the entire amount or only what they purchased it for?

Assuming the full debt was assigned properly to the purchasing company, you still owe the full amount of the debt.
