Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Credit Card Fraud

Credit card accounts opened by VERY close relative without my knowledge in '88 found out in '91. I did not press charges-chose to detach self from this person and told everyone about the deeds (person has been ''shunned'' by all for 10 years!!)Payments were made by person until 12-93 at which time became very ill, lost everything and was forced into BK7 (JUSTICE!!) credit cards were listed for remaining amounts by account #'S only not corrected name (mine)

Received call from assigment co 9/01 wanting payment on 1 account. Told them about fraud referred them to person would give person chance to settle this or I would press charges. What is statue? Am I still liable? Is this person? Can I still press charges? A small settlement was reached

Re: Credit Card Fraud

You are (were) under no liability.

The collection company may have violated the laws for fair credit and collection. You may have a cause of action against that company if they coerced you into making a settlement.
