Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Credit card harassment at work

I just had a company cal ACM call my work saying they were coming to serve me papers. I defaulted on the credit cards over 6 years ago and all of them wrote me off. A couple companies bought the debt I guess and are now trying to force me into paying by using these scare tactics. My question to you is this legal and am I oblige to have them be calling and harrassing my work? They called personnel office.

Thank you.

Re: Credit card harassment at work

No, what they are doing is illegal and you could have a good lawsuit against them. Keep good notes and diaries. It is too late for them to sue, but DO NOT PAY ANYTHING OR PROMISE TO PAY ANYTHING or you will reset the clock and then they will be able to sue you! Please call me or call another attorney who handles FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) cases!
