credit card incorrectly credited my account and wants it back

6 months ago i closed a credit card account, but now they have re-opened it saying that they mistakenly credited my account $1361 and unless i can prove i sent in that money they want me to pay. is this legal? should i have to prove i paid if it was their mistake? what's to keep them from saying i never paid any of my balance bills over the last 5 years? thanks for your help, paul

they are making the claim so they must prove the error.
