Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Can I get a credit report on my debtor?

I won a small claims court judgment, and the debtor didn't pay. Can I purchase a credit report on this person? I need to have his social security number in order to garnish his wages (he's a postal worker). I can call him back to court to answer my questions, but am not up to another confrontation in court. Is this a legal option for me in my asset searches?

Re: Can I get a credit report on my debtor?

You can purchase a credit report but you will need to have some information about the debtor, such as the SS number. The easiest way to collect is to order the debtor to appear for a "Debtor's Exam" Even though you don't want to meet him again, it is the easiest way to ask about all of his identifying information, including bank accounts and other assets.
