Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Can a creditor take money out of a bank account?

I'm working and going to school. Because of various problems, I've gotten way behind in my bills and plan to start paying on my bills again when my business picks up. I am concerned they will go after my checking account where I keep the money to pay my rent and other living expenses. Can they do that? Thank you for your help.

For a consumer debt, a judgment must be rendered first. Sometimes, the creditor violates the Fair Debt Collection Acts for Califonia and Federal Law.
