Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
How soon can a creditor sue you?
The last payment I made to this creditor was in January 2004. In the last 2 days I have received to letters from 3rd party '' debt lawyers helpers'' who claim there is a judgement against me in my city court filed in July.
Can they sue me so quickly? I don't deny that I owe these charges, but I certainly can't pay the full amount.
I should add that I have not received any summons from the court to date, but have gotten ominous letters from attorney acting on behalf of this creditor, but nothing official.
What can I do?

Yes, but not without notice to you. You should have been served with the complaint and given an opportunity to answer. If not, quickly, move to set aside the judgment (file a Motion with the Court).
