Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Creditors calling place of employment
Hello,
I want to know if collection agencies, banks and creditors are legally allowed to call someone at their place of employment in an attempt to collect outstanding debts without the person's consent.
Thank you for your time.

In California, a creditor may only contact the employer once orally, to determine the debtor's current address or confirm employment. After that, they must contact the employer in writing.
However, if you want them to stop calling YOU at work, you should write them by certified mail and state it is inconvenient and prohibited by your employer to take such calls. In fact, tell them that you don't want them to contact you AT ALL, even at home. After that, they cannot contact you at all. If they do, collect your $1000 by contacting a consumer attorney.
