Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Can creditors take my car?

I am anticipating being sued by a collection agency who says I owe them 11K. The debt was originally 7,800. I don't own a home. I just own a salvaged 1997 honda crv. How likely is it that they will come after my car? I once read an article about property exemptions from judgements due to consumer debt. Is my car exempt? Since its salvaged, I think the value of it is like 5K or so. I really need the car to drive to school. Please advised me what I should do if I am sued. Thank you very much.

Re: Can creditors take my car?

There may be technical defenses to lawsuits such as these for example the statute of limitations. If you fax any letters to me from the collection agency to 714 363 0229, I will call you. Please provide me with your phone number.
