Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

My daughter passed away 3.5 years ago. Her husband did not have money for the funeral. He asked me to pay and he would pay me back when he received the insurance money. The funeral cost $15,000 and he recived $95,000 in insurance money. He refuses to pay me back is now remarried and will not take my calls. Do I have a case to sue him?

If you have any kind of written proof, such as an email or a cancelled check that says "loan," you still have half a year or so within which to sue.
