Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Deased father debt
My father passed away in 2002 he left credit card debts that were in his name only. My mother was not even aware that he had them until he became ill. They have no real property. She has been paying on these debts since then. They closed the accounts when told of his death. she can not use them. Does she owe these debts can she stop paying them without being sued. It is a real hardship on her.

Re: Deased father debt
She may be responsible, depending on what was purchased with the cards. Once she started making payments, she probably assumed the liability and is stuck on making the continued payments.
