Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Debt Collection

I was asked to pay 1,800 for debt owed for a credit card. The credit card company then gave the account to a different collection agency to contact me. On first contact he asked me for my bank routing number even after understanding that I had no cash in the account. He then said he would take the routing number and put it on ''hold'' till the end of the month so I could get some money to it. Seeking help I contacted a collection consulting services and they assigned me a lawyer. They told me not to pay the company and told me they would help me out. I paid them a fee of 1,200 and closed my bank account. After 4 months I herd nothing from the debt collector, and then recently I was contacted saying that I could be sued for writing a bad check. I didn't write any checks and the consulting services I hired told me it was just threat tactics used by the company. Unfortunately it just wasn't reassuring enough, as I don't want my wages to be garnished and they've even threaten that it is a felony to write bad checks. If I am charged with felony I will also lose my job.

Re: Debt Collection

Do you owe the debt? If so, why did you pay $1,200 to a consulting company instead of offering the $1,200 on the debt? That probably would have resolved this.

At this point, you probably need to talk to an attorney. You have too many issues. I would recommend you visit the NACA website at www.naca.net. You can also read more at my blog, www.californiadebtblog.com
