Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Debt collection and drivers licence

I was in a car accident and I was unable to pay the insurance company. The insurance company sent my bill to a debt collector. The debt collector is threatening to have my license suspended. This debt collection company is located in arizona, and I live in california. Can the debt collector actually have my licence suspended?

Yes. There is a vehicle code section that discusses this. (I don't have it handy, but it is discussed on my blog, www.calpiblog.com) You need to fight them aggressively because they will try to bully you and push you around.
