Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Debt Collection for Debt Sixteen Years Old

I received a letter from a debt collection agency claiming that I owe Fingerhut $648 from a debt owed in 1986. I had an account with them over 16 years ago; but I have never owed them this amount. Do I have to pay Fingerhut just because they say I owe them from sixteen years ago?

Not only do you not have to pay them just because they demand it, it appears that the Statute of Limitations has barred their ability to collect any amount you owed them from your last transactions... the Statute is 5 years on a written agreement, and 4 years on an oral agreement. In either case, their claim appears barred.

Unless the claim resulted from a judgment that was renewed for another 10 years, I cannot see how you are liahle. How do you know that the debt is 16 years old. Please fax me any letter or correspondence to 714 363 0229 and I will provide you with free consultation.
