debt collection and wage garnishments

I need help to stop a wage garnishment, I have paid some of the amount owed, is there any way I can avoid this, I am in financial hardship right now, I just need more time to make payments

You can file for a claim of exemption. You should go to http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/forms and look at the forms for Claim of Exemption and Notice of Filing of Claim of Exemption.
