Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

old debt, how to make creditors stop

Hello. Unfortunately, I had several accounts that I never paid back years ago. It's been over 7 years and none of them are on my credit reports. However, some have been trying to contact me to make me pay. Is the SOL in effect for these accounts? What can I do to make them stop, I'm afraid if I contact them/pick up the phone when they call that they will consider that as ''re-opening my case again,'' and that I'll be subjected to repay the debt. Please help and tell me what steps I need to take to make them stop. Thank you very much for your time and help.

You may have a claim against that company under the Fair Debt Collection Act. We would have to review your paperwork and any demand letter from the collection agency. Please contact us if you have any questions.

The statute of limitations has probably run. I say probably because I do not have all of the facts. You should just ignore them. They may sue you, but if they do you can then plead the statute of limitations as an affirmative defense.

If you want to do something, my blog at www.californiadebtblog.com has a sample letter asking them to stop calling you.
