Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Debt summons

I received a debt summons which is requesting a written response within 30 days which is almost up for me. It says I owe $4000 to Portfolio Recovery Associates who supposedly bought my debt from Capital One plus I am wondering why there is no date to appear to court if this is a summons. I went to the courts to get the proper paperwork, which looks confusing to fill out, and found out the filing fee was $225. Is it common for people to answer the summons even if it seems like most people say the judge does not tolerate debtors. I can barely make payments let alone fork up $225 to answer if my chances to lower my debt is close to none. Suggestions please??

Yes, the paperwork is confusing to fill out. Your lawyer should be filling it out. You should be calling lawyers and yes, you can afford one.
