Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

debt

my wife has a gambling problem. She

maxed out her credit cards as well as

did not repay her cash advance loans.

all in her name. We live in California

which is a community state. My

credit is excellent. Can they come

after me for repayment?

I'd like to add to Attorney Starrett's post - they can come after you even if the cards are not joint credit. Because California is a community property state, all debts incurred while married are community obligations, and you are each jointly liable for their repayment. In most instances, however, large creditors tend only to go after the person listed in the contract. I also agree - do whatever you can to get your wife some help as soon as possible.
