Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Debts after Death

I am inquiring for advise in reference to medical bills that were acquired by may dad prior to his death in July 2001. We are being inundated with bills and phone calls requesting payment. My question is, are debts or bills accumulated prior to death desolved after a death has occurred? We are being told that since we signed as a responsible party when taking him into emergency that we became responsibile to pay the bill. These bills are for co-payment of services received during my dad's illness. Any clarification you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Re: Debts after Death

Depends on what you signed. under the law you are not responsible unless you sign a contract agreeing to pay.
