Deceased person's financial obligations

Are the realities (spouse, children) of a deceased person responsible by law for the financial obligations of the deceased person?

Children, no. Spouse, maybe if the debts are community property debts or were for the decedents support or well being. In any case, his estate is liable for the obligations.
