decedant debt obligation
Brother-in law passed, there are no assets to speak of. Received credit card statement what is the family obligation if any to the creditor?

If the debt only belongs to your brother in law, call the credit card company. They will send you some forms and you complete them and mail them back with the death certificate. That should get them to close the account and stop attempting to collect the debt.
However, if anyone else used the card or is a co-borrower, they may be responsible for the charges.
