Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I had a default judgement filed against me I have no knowledge of. I filed a motion to vacate judgement and have a court date next month. I discovered the judgement when refinancing my home. If I pay the judgement to close, and the default judgement dismissed, can I recover my money, and how? Thank you!

You might be able to recover it, but it would be a long haul. I strongly recommend against it. You would be better off working with the lender and title company they use. If they are reasonable about it, you should be able to deposit the money in escrow and have the title insurance company "insure around' the lien. If the judgement stands, the escrow company would pay the creditor, and if you win, they just give you your money back.
