Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

re: direct tv

On 07/13/2009 I cancelled service with the above mentioned company and paid the due balance of $151.00 in full. Now three months later I discover that they have sent me to collections for an alleged past due balance of $29.92. They claim that when I returned my boxes there was a sim card filled with films rented in 2007 that had never been billed. If I had been billed, I would have paid it. Now my credit is in jeopardy and I want to know what are my options of recourse. Please advise.

Thank you,

Kelly Compton

Well did you rent the movies and not pay for them? bet you can't remember so tell them that you dispute any changes and for them to research and provide verification of the debt. They cannot make a negative report if you dispute the debt and it is valid. Remember to keep a copy of every letter you send them and send them letters rather than calling them so you have a paper trail if push comes to shove down the line.

Don't let them threaten you for some bogus charge!
