Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I was divorced in 2006. My exwife kept a joint account open with a credit card and line of credit. She recently passed away and while helping with the funeral planning I found out about the accounts. There are several thousand dollars in debt. Our divorce states that all debts incurred after are not the responsibility of the other party. But the credit card and LOC companies say that I am still liable and that supersedes the divorce decree.Do I have to pay this debt?
