eviction lawsuit

my roomate and I had an apartment together. we verbaly agreed that I could move out and he had 2 months to find some one else. long story short is that he did find anybody. Now the leasing compay wants to sue me for the rest of the lease agreement even though my roomate is still living (he's paying for half of the the rent)in that place....is this legal? what can I do?

If you signed a lease agreement with the leasing company, then you are responsible. Just because you had an agreement with your roommate doesnt mean the landlord has to accept this agreement. On the other hand, you may have been on a month-to-month and might not be liable if you gave proper notice of our intent to move out. You really need to consult a local attorney who practices landlord/tenant law.
