My ex-girlfriend refuses to pay her credit card bill
I granted my ex-girlfriend a credit card in her name under my main account. We receive a monthly bill with the charges separated and itemized according to our separate cards. She eventually ran her portion of the bill over $8,000. When we broke-up she agreed to terms (via email) for repayment. She started off paying $1000 a month on her portion of the bill. Recently she tells me that she will only be paying half of the remaining balance of $6000 and I have to pay the remaining $3000. I have copies of all the emails of our agreement to pay the balance in full and I'm now considering taking her to small claims court to recover the full amount. What should I do and do I have a chance of winning the case.

Based on your version of the facts, you should win.

First, cancel her card. Never give someone a card on your account, unless it is a relative, such as a spouse or child.
Second, you can sue her in small claims court. The problem is going to be collecting. Does she have assets you can collect against?

1. You have nothing to lose by taking her to small claims court. Good luck!
2. For more info on small claims cases between ex's, watch a few episodes of Judge Judy or People's Court.
3. You got off cheap. Think of all the alimony, etc. you don't have to pay.
4. Don't give girlfriends credit cards. Find a radio station in your locality that airs the Tom Leykis program (www.blowmeuptom.com) and listen regularly.
