expired sol medical debt in ca

I had a collector contact me a few months ago about a medical debt (under $500) from 2002. I sent them a debt validation request letter, they responded with some documentation. Do I still have to pay this debt even though the sol has expired? What kind of letter do I send them if I feel I don't owe this money because the debt has expired?

If you believe the Statute of Limitations has passed, I would not do anything further. However, if you are sued, you should talk to an attorney immediately so that you can file the appropriate responsive pleading.
