Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Explanation on Statue of Limitations for Debt owed
I had a case settled out of court and my lawyer never paid the medical bills. I contacted the State Bar Assoc. and was granted payment for creditor on my credit reports in 1997. Now, I'm receiving notice of a new creditor for which I owe money to. What is the statue of limitation as to time if I did not hear from them until now? The State Bar will not accept any further applications because at the time I had to notify them of all the liens against me. Thank you for your help.

The statute of limitations is 4 years on a written contract and 2 years on an oral contract. Were you able to obtain relief against the attorney? I would be happy to consult with you without charge. If you would like this assistence, please fax me to 714 363-0229 any documents you might have including any correspondence from the State Bar.
