Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Ex-spouse signed contract kids private school

My ex-spouse signed a contract for my kids to attend catholic school. I was not to be responsible for payment. He paid registration, etc. The kids went to school for 2 years -School never collected tuition-

They are suing me and him (together) for 10,000 of two years of tuition. I was'nt aware of his debt. And I don't recall ever signing a paper stating I would be responsible. They are suing both of us together. At the time the kids started school we were not marrier. Am I responsible, what should I tell the Judge? I filed a response and he filed his separate response in which he indicated that I was not to be responsible for bill. I am due in court in a couple of weeks.. Please help..I just got a substitution of attorney form and only his name appears on vs not mine. What do I do

I can't really give you an answer without reviewing the actual complaint. You should probably seek legal help representing you in court. The response that you filed may nat be adequate to protect your rights.

Re: Ex-spouse signed contract kids private school

from the brief facts you have submitted so far, it appears that you would not necessarily be liable for the debt incurred by your ex, especially if you two were not married at the time and you never signed a contract with anyone personally. however, i would need more facts or clarification of the ones u have submitted so far. if you would like further legal assistance and/or representation in this matter, please email me directly with more facts and how you would like to proceed.
