Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Ex-wife ran up Credit Card debt and died.
My wife and I divorced in 1987. We paid off any debts and
split the our property. We were renting. She moved to another city. I remarried in 95. I did not see her for about 15 years. Recently she died 7/04 and more recently I,ve found out she was using a credit card that had my name on it unbeknownst to me. The credit card company is now after me. I don't care about my credit rating. Can they win in court? Will Chase Bank bother for $8000. They are offerring to give me 40% off if I pay. Should I take the offer? Thanks, Nick

They have little chance of winning based on the facts as I see them. They may even be in violation of law for even pursing you.
