Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
If someone gives me a fairly large sum of money, $500, with no agreement to repay the money, verbal or otherwise, and no mention of repayment was given at the time of the initial payment, am I under any legal obligation to repay the money if they request it at a later date?

It depends what was said during the transaction. If the donor said, "here's $500, have a good time," that seems like it would be a gift. Otherwise, it would be up to the trier of fact to weigh the discussions, relationship of the parties, previous track record, etc.
