Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

How can I find out?

I've heard someone is trying to serve me a summons. My name's changed, I've moved and my friend didn't give me up. How can I find out who is trying to serve me and find them so I'm not subject to a default judgement? I want to file an answer - how do I do that?

Re: How can I find out?

The type of response you file with the court depends on the type of lawsuit it is and the nature of the allegations. Most courts have a name index search function on their website so you can get the name of the other party and the case number of the lawsuit. Some courts have more information such as the name of the other party's attorney and some even let you download copies of documents that are in the court's file.
