Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

found out thru attorney solicitation about a case against me by a creditor. Understand that I need to physically be served a summons for this to continue. Can they serve me by certified or registered or any mail delivery if I am not receiving- or if I did, & don't answer can there be a case & judgement made w/o myself/representation appearing? Thank you for consideration.

There are a variety of ways you can be served without a process server walking up to you and handing you the papers. Probably the most common manner of service is called "substituted service." In that process, copies of the papers are delivered to the defendant's home or place of employment and left with someone over 18, and then copies are mailed to the same address. If they serve you that way, and you don't respond, they can take your default and obtain a judgment against you without you or counsel for you ever doing anything.
