Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Fradulent Check

I had a marketing company send me a check in the amount of $2,000 and I deposited into my savings account. The money was available and I withdrew 1,000 of it and left the rest. The bank calls me a week later telling me that the check was no good and the company doesn't exist. Am I liable for the type of transaction? I bank with the State Employees Credit Union? Am I liable?

Re: Fradulent Check

Yes, you are liable. It is not the bank's fault that you accepted a fraudulent check. You spent money before confirming that it was a good check, so this is your responsibility.
